Run To The Blue Water

Offshore fishing is about hunting the deep blue sea for a variety of iconic Florida Keys species, including mahi, tuna, sailfish, and wahoo. Depending on the time of year, the experience varies, but the goal is the same: to make great memories catching fish while sharing a few laughs.

Blackfin Tuna is a year-round treat on the Marathon Hump (underwater mountain), but the summer and fall are especially great times to go, as calmer weather reduces travel times. On the way, Captain Kevin can hunt for mahi under birds, near weedlines and floaters. Those floaters also can hold delicious wahoo and tripletail. Mahi fishing is a blast as a group. Hook one fish and the whole school tends to follow it right up to the boat, giving everyone a shot at fast action. Some days you never even get to the hump because there is so much action out there!

In the late fall and winter there will be lots of bait fish closer to shore. This is fantastic because it brings a lot of those pelagic fish in closer to feed. This means tuna much closer than the hump, occasional mahi schools, high-speed trolling for wahoo, and kite fishing for sailfish and kingfish. As the year progresses in the spring when conditions are right there are great opportunities for sight fishing for sailfish and cobias in the sand.

If it’s tarpon season (April through July) or during the mangrove snapper spawn in July, you can even start the day early with some inshore or reef fishing before the sun gets high, taking advantage of that cool morning weather. We sell this as the perfect day combo! Call us and ask Kelly all about it, she’ll give you the details and availability.

Into The Deep

In water several hundred feet deep, we drop electric reels down to the bottom for species you won’t find anywhere else in the Keys. Snowy grouper, yellowedge grouper, queen snapper, and tilefish all live in this cold, dark water far offshore.

Deep dropping is a great add-on for a slower bite day offshore, or a trip of its own for anglers after something different. Ask Kelly about combining it with your offshore trip when you book.
